While search engines deliver value, businesses will pay to be seen on them.
SEO sits awkwardly amongst other marketing channels. The search engines will always try to make PPC attractive, because that's how the search engines make their money.
At the same time, they'll try to negate the value proposition of SEO, because SEO competes with PPC. SEOs are only useful to search engines in that they help spread the word about search engines, and they help sites get crawled. But don't think the search engines are going to do you, or your business model, any favors. This situation doesn't make the SEOs job impossible, but I'm sure many people would agree that offering SEO as a service is a lot harder than it once was. A few years ago, all you had to do was add a few keywords terms to the copy and titles, point a few links at a site, wait one month, run a ranking report, and voila! You're an SEO provider.
Not anymore. SEO has become a much more holistic strategy. It requires a greater level of buy in from clients, designers, programmers, and all the other people whose toes you might tread on. But there is plenty of life in the game yet. A lot of SEOs do great business, as can be seen from the huge popularity of the conference circuit. A lot of marketing spend is moving from other channels into search. By selling your services to others, you not only have an occupation, you gain insight into how other businesses work, which is a valuable education in itself. Majority of information is pulled from Southern Nevada Health District's COVID-19 dashboard and historical reports.
Our positives are increasing about under 1200/day, our recovery rate has decreased (80+% range), and our hospitalizations are rising. Protect our vulnerable and continue to practice good hygiene habits, including wearing a mask to prevent asymptomatic spread as mandated by Governor Sisolak (onus is on businesses, which we want to keep open, but Metro will not enforce it; OSHA is responsible for mask enforcement by fining the business). UMC's testing sites are inside Thomas & Mack Center and Cashman Field Center. They can do 1,200 tests per day, Tues-Sat 8am to 4pm. No symptoms, insurance, or citizenship required for testing. Schedule an appointment online through UMC's website (www.umcsn.com). A staff member will contact you back to schedule your appointment. According to their reps, there is no limit how often you can get tested. Sites are walk-in, appointment or walk-up. Both sites now use the self-nasal swab test kits.
UMC updates COVID-19 test guidelines:
New guidelines are to save test kits for those exhibiting symptoms.
See all testing locations on the SNHD website.
All CVS pharmacy drive-thru locations also does testing, no cost should be associated with this test. Validate with your insurance. If no insurance, there should be no charge. Requires an appointment scheduled.
Six months ago, the first vaccine was tested. More than 160 vaccine prototypes are being tested. Clinical trials of the vaccine were administered three months ago. Phase 1 & 2 of trial vaccines have completed with positive antibody results. Phase 3 clinical trials started with 30k volunteers; large test size of 3k vaccine test trials in the UK. Africa started their vaccine trials four months ago. Multiple sources stating to expect an FDA approved vaccine by beginning of next year.
Of the 100+ vaccines submitted, 22 have made the cut to go through testing and final FDA approval phases (5/15 briefing). The front runner vaccine is conducting human trails (Phase 3 aka final stage), completion date is pending. AstraZeneca is prepared to produce 2 billion doses once the vaccine is FDA approved. Pfizer claims their vaccine is more than 95% effective; goal end of the year. Moderna vaccine claims about 94.5% effective. Expected US authorization for Pfizer and Moderna along with distribution approval is expected within 24hrs of regulatory approval (note: they currently have 20M doses ready; vaccine is a two stage dose). Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is 70% to 90% effective based on dosage program (single versus duo).
US government is working with four vaccine manufacturers who are in the final phases of vaccine trials, all prepared for massive vaccine output once FDA approval is given. Worldwide, six are in Phase III.
Phase 3 vaccine trials for Vegas has started. Volunteers can call 702-893-8968. Must be 18+. Administered by the Wake Clinical Research Center of Nevada. Source.
Remain mindful to give our medical community the ability to focus on those in need of their expertise to survive and combat the virus.

2020.11.24 23:42 PriamofTroy1997 Thinking of Taking a Four Month Break in Istanbul - Need Advice

I am currently living in London and am thinking of taking a short break in between jobs in Istanbul from August to December 2021 (if the covid situation improves).
I have begun to gain an idea of where I would like to live/what I would do during my time there. Having looked at the cost of living, I am pretty sure that I can save up enough money to simply relax and live comfortably during this period.
However, I still have a few questions and I would be really grateful if some people could answer them.

Background
Before that though, here's a bit about me.
I am a 23-year-old white-collar professional currently living in London. I don't speak any Turkish (I'll get to that) but love the history and culture and have always have wanted to go. Like many professionals my age, I feel that while I have a decent enough job, I am seeing my life rush past me and I am not getting any younger. I did the typical thing of graduate and then going straight into the workplace and I would therefore like a short break to slow down a little.
Just to be clear I do like my job and I am not 'fleeing' away from some sort of hard reality at home. I also have no romantic interpretation of what Istanbul would be like to live in. Yet compared to other places I have looked at for a sabbatical (namely Beirut and Tangiers), I think it would be a pretty cool place for me to live in for a short while.
I have no grand plans. Other than seeing all the sites, I mainly just want to go to restaurants, cafes and bars (nothing too fancy), learn the basics of a different language, maybe learn some new digital skills online in my free time, finish writing my short novel, get to know a new city and possibly make some friends before most likely heading back to the UK to start a new job.
The idea is very much for me to leave the stress of London for a while, finish some personal projects of mine and get to experience a new culture. Hopefully, someone will confirm that Istanbul would be the right place for me to do that.

Questions
So basically, having done some research on the internet, I have a number of questions:

  1. Where should I live?
From what I am looked at, I have narrowed down where I should like to three areas: Beyoğlu (Karaköy neighbourhood), Kadıköy (Kadıköy-Moda to be more precise) and the Kuzguncuk neighbourhood in Üsküdar. I have reservations about Karaköy and Kuzguncuk.
These reservations are :
a) That Beyoğlu would be busy all the time and always rammed with tourists. While I certainly would like to live in an area with bars, cafes etc., I do not want to be hearing loads of noise every day and every night of the week. I already experienced that in London two years ago living in zone 1 and disliked it heavily. Could someone therefore confirm what I could expect from living in the Karaköy neighbourhood of Beyoğlu?
b) With Kuzguncuk being in Üsküdar, I am concerned that it will be a bit too conservative for me (a young, foreign male who drinks at cafes and bars). That said, I like the look of the neighbourhood's architecture and greenery. However, would I be totally isolated from people like me? If so, I think it would have to be a no.
2. Which sites should I use to rent an apartment?
Initially, I was going to use Airbnb to get a one bed flat for £450 (approximately 4800 lira) a month . This seemed fine, and I would honestly prefer doing it as I am only planning to be in Istanbul for four months and do not speak enough Turkish to use local sites.
The only reason why I am asking if there are any sites which would suit my needs better is because I have not been able to find any suitable flats in Kadıköy-Moda on Airbnb. However, hopefully, this is just because of the pandemic.
*This may be a lot but please be in mind that I am used to London rents, where I share an apartment with a friend which costs me £800 (approximately 8500 lira) a month including bills.

3. Meeting New People

I know that like in all big cities, there are lots of scams in Istanbul directed at solo male travellers. I am therefore not entirely stupid as to just strike up conversation with complete strangers in the street.
However, I wouldn't mind getting to know some people my age during a short stay. Can I expect to strike up some conversation with genuine people outside cafes and restraunts? I know this is a difficult question to ask, but it is worth knowing - especially as people in London are notoriously unfriendly.
Of course, I could also revert to meeting people (primarily westerners) on your typical dating apps but honestly, I would prefer my own company to have to do that. I only really need to know out of expectation really, I would be perfectly satisfied being very much a solo traveller during the four-month period.

Any further comments/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot :)

EDIT: I can handle noise - where I lived in zone one was actually across the street from one of the busiest stations in London (London Bridge). It was also across the road from a very busy tourist market, where literally thousands of people visit a day - so it's just that level of noise I don't want to experience again!

17 Best Keto Meal Delivery Services Of 2020 With Low-Carb Options

https://preview.redd.it/9o30tf8w8s061.jpg?width=2078&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0887b6ac89052356c5ffdcd925a62bd9fe9d585e
Following a strict diet can definitely be hard AF any old time. But for anyone who, say, has children to take care of or a crazy job or unconventional work hours-or who just *hates* meal prepping-it can feel super stressful to commit to a hardcore eating regimen like the keto diet. (ICYMI, the keto diet has a strict formula that's heavy in fat and skimpy in carbs. ) With keto, making your own meals is sort of a must (at least most of the time), as it's rare to find classic recipes or takeout-ordered meals that are totally keto-friendly.
But if you're new to keto or just hate the work of keeping track of what's in your meals, counting your macros and figuring out what ingredients to use to make them just right can be sort of a pain. There is a solution, though: a keto meal delivery service. Yup, keto food delivery is a real thing and there's countless options for you to choose from, whether you prefer something you can throw in the microwave or something you can cook yourself without the pain of chopping up your own veggies.
Low-carb meal delivery services can also let you build up a pretty diverse menu, so that you aren't eating your go-to keto wrap every day. Plus, you don't have to break the bank if you don't want to. There are actually plenty of affordable keto meal delivery services out there that offer lots of yummy, budget-friendly options.
The keto meal delivery reviews are in, and you're going to want to bookmark this list of the best options. Next time you're feeling overwhelmed (and like you can't do another damn thing with avocados, lol), try having one of these keto meal kits shipped right to your doorstep.
1 Snap Kitchen
Snap Kitchen has tons of variety for all of your keto meal needs. The delivery service works with expert dietitians to build portion-controlled plates that are literally made fresh on the daily. Its products are also totally free of gluten (in case gluten is an issue for you!), antibiotics and added hormones, so you can rest-easy knowing that you're eating only the highest-quality ingredients. Snap uses a carb guideline of only 30 grams of net carbs per day, which (they claim) helps increase mental clarity, improves your blood sugar, and gives you more energy overall.
How it works: Customize your meal plan by selecting specific meals at the beginning of each week. You can buy your meals in packs of six for $ or 12 for $ If you live in one of the 38 states listed on their site, you can get your meal delivered straight to your home.
Once you receive your box, literally all you have to do is plop the container in the microwave or heat on the stove to warm up your meal. Not feeling one of the dishes? No worries, you're not tied to any of them. You can swap meals out each week for new ones.
2 Fresh N' Lean
Yep, you guessed it. Fresh N' Lean products are totally ~fresh~, organic, and prepared by real chefs. The service also changes their menu every week, so you never feel like you're having the same ol' meal every day. Also a major plus? Fresh N' Lean will literally send you breakfast, lunch and dinner, all with zero-prep required. Just reheat and serve, friends.
How it works: You can order a week's worth of meals or just single servings when you buy from this service. While prices vary, one dish will cost roughly $ per package. If you like what you tried with one dish, you can commit to five days worth of meals for $172 or seven days worth for $ Considering you're set for every meal all week long, you just might be able to justify this steep price.
3 Paleo On The Go
Okay, so Paleo On The Go isn't truly keto-specific. That said, there's still plenty of keto-friendly options available on the site like shrimp pad thai, white chicken chili, chicken soup, and warm bone broth. POTG promises to deliver your order in two days or less, and all you have to do is store your meals in the freezer until you're ready to put them to good use.
How it works: Order your meal before 4:00 EST Monday through Thursday and before 2:00 EST on Friday and you'll receive food the very next day. In the 'Keto Sampler' you can get seven meals for $ , or check out tons of other options that are paleo and Whole-30-approved on the site.
Wondering how to heat things up? The microwave and oven needs vary by each item, but regardless there's almost no prep involved in these straight-to-your-door meals.
4 Pete's Paleo
Sooo again, not keto-specific but still keto-friendly all the same! Pete's Paleo will deliver tons of meal options to your doorstep prepared by chefs with fresh, seasonal ingredients. If you've ever felt like you're running out of options with keto, Pete's has so many creative meals that are already fully prepped. Just heat them up and you're totally good to go.
How it works: If you want meals in bulk, Pete's has got what you're looking for. Order meal plans in sizes of 5 for $ , 10 for $149, or 14 for $ Want to have food ready for your whole crew, too? There's family plans with five meals of four servings each for $ So yeah, feel free to cross cooking meals and prepping for family dinner off of your checklist.
5 Sun Basket
Okay, so Sun Basket isn't a keto-specific meal delivery kit, but it is an awesome subscription service that has tons of diet plans to choose from. For keto, you'll want to select The Carb-Conscious Meal Plan, which features a rotating menu of recipes (which you get to pick out) that clock in with 25 to 35 grams of net carbs or fewer and at least 25 grams of protein per serving. Healthy fats from nuts, avocados, and oils are also built into the mix. But the best part? The protein sources are about as healthy as you can get, from organic eggs to antibiotic- and hormone-free, responsibly-raised meats.
How it works: You choose to receive anywhere from two to four recipes per week for a minimum of two people, with each meal costing about $11 to $ Conflicted about what you want to try? Let their in-house chef choose for you. (Psst. . . that's a great way to find new keto-friendly meals you're crazy about).
Skip a week, cancel, or change eating plans whenever you want-Sun Basket makes it almost too easy.
6 Territory Foods
Territory Foods relies on chefs and nutrition experts to create entrees that check every specific diet plan's boxes. Their uber-popular Keto Reset eating program centers around plenty of healthy fats and minimal carbs, of course, but also packs in low-carb, keto-friendly veggies for optimal health.
Heads up: Territory's keto subscription only delivers lunch and dinner meals, not breakfast or snacks. (No worries, though: These keto brekkie recipes and shopping lists can help you out there!)
How it works: Territory will deliver meals for free at local gyms and other convenient locations, or drop them off at your doorstep for $8 extra. You can choose twice-weekly meals to be delivered on Mondays, Thursdays, or both, but prices vary.
You can also pick from two different meal sizes, so if you tend to eat on the lighter side and don't want to waste food (good girl), you don't have to. Smaller meals cost around $10 or more each, while the slightly larger, standard size will come in closer to $13-plus.
7 Green Chef
Green Chef offers organic meals that you actually make at home. They also service other dietary needs, so you just need to make sure you order from the keto section (which is also gluten-free).
How it works: Plans vary but usually cost around $ per meal for the keto plan, per the company's website. You can sign up for a two-person plan that gives you three dinners for two people that's delivered once a week.
The ingredients for the meals show up, and then you prepare them yourself. (Green Chef swears all meals can be made in 30 minutes or less. ) If you're interested in a meal-delivery service, but still want to see everything that goes into your dishes and level-up your cooking skills, this is probably the meal delivery service for you.
8 FACTOR
FACTOR is big on grass-fed meats that are free of hormones, GMOs, and antibiotics, and they also use a ton of organic produce, according to their website. This is another one that services all diet types, but offers up keto-friendly meals (just look for the "K" for keto at the bottom of the recipe).
How it works: FACTOR delivers a bunch of different packages, ranging from $60 for four meals a week to $198 for 18 meals a week (basically breakfast, lunch, and dinner for six days).
You have two options with your plan: You can choose your meals each week, or let the company choose them for you based on your tastes and keto preferences. The meals are delivered fresh, not frozen, so all you have to do is heat them up.
9 Diet-to-Go
Diet-to-Go offers a Keto-Carb 30 plan, which is, as you can probably guess, keto-friendly. They also service other diets. All meals on this particular plan are made to give you only 30 grams or less of carbs a day, and they don't offer fruit, bread, sugar, or any other conventional carbs on this plan.
How it works: Diet-to-Go will ask you a bunch of questions about the kind of foods you like, and whether you want food delivered five or seven days a week, as well as how many meals you want a day (two vs. three).
For two meals a day for five days (lunch and dinner, plus sides), you're generally looking at $ per week, or $ a meal. Delivery dates vary depending on where you live, but you can expect to see your meals about three days after you order them.
10Provenance Meal
Provenance Meals doesn't have a strictly keto meal selection, but they offer plenty of low-carb meals. But it helps if you're already well-acquainted with keto before you opt for this service, since you'll have to pick-and-choose which meals are right for your diet. All of their meals are gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free. Bonus: They've even partnered with a non-profit to send meal packages to frontline healthcare workers.
How it works: Provenance Meals is currently only available in New York City, delivering on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:00 the night before to noon.
For $68 per day, you can have pre-made breakfast, lunch and dinner delivered to your home or office. There's no subscription required; you pick how many meals you want and how often each week. If you're a fan, there's a membership option that comes with a 10 percent discount on your recurring weekly order.
11 Ketoned Bodies
Ketoned Bodies calls itself the "first regenerative agriculture meal delivery service," and the focus is on creating and delivering keto meals in the most eco-friendly way possible. They source their ingredients from farms that practice regenerative agriculture (which is better for the environment), meals are delivered frozen (just heat and enjoy) to cut down on waste, and you can order in bulk to reduce your carbon footprint from delivery.
How it works: Review the menu for a la carte meals ($ or one of the Meal Plan Packages ($150 for 10 meals). Their largest package (84 meals), runs $1, Orders have to be received by Friday at noon EST in order to ship the following Monday.
12 Clean Eatz Kitchen
Clean Eatz Kitchen ships everywhere east of Colorado, offering keto meals and other plans, like weight-loss and gluten-free.
How it works: Choose meals from the menu or create your own by mixing and matching from their ingredient list. You can get five heat-and-eat meals for $ , and shipping is free. There's also an option to order bigger portions for families, running at $ , if you need more food for more people.
13 518 Kitchen
Meals from 518 kitchen are designed and prepared in small batches by chefs in order to maximize the flavor and freshness of each meal. The meals are then flash frozen to preserve them as they make their way to you.
How it works: You can design a lunch and dinner box filled with 14 entrees for $ To prep your box, choose from options like Chicken Tikka Masala or the Cauli Mac & Cheese. Once you place your order, the meals are delivered nationwide through FedEx overnight shipping.
14 Proper Good
Perfect for soup lovers, Proper Good makes tasty keto-approved soups in flavors like sweet red pepper & meatball and chicken & mushroom, though their website also says they'll be launching meals too.
How it works: You can purchase soups individually, or sign up for a subscription program to get a certain flavor or a keto pack delivered to you once a week, or every 2, 4, or 6 weeks. Opting for a subscription package allows you to save 15 percent on each individual soup. You can subscribe for a monthly keto pack of six soups for $
15 Trifecta Nutrition
With Trifecta, you can opt for a weekly delivery of chef-prepared meals made with organic ingredients and designed so that you're eating no more than 20 grams of carbs a day. The ready-to-eat, macro-balanced meals also average about 35 grams of fat per day and 41 grams of protein.
How it works: Trifecta offers you the option to really personalize your delivery by allowing you to choose how many meals you'd like per day, how many days a week you want meals for, and whether you'd like breakfast included in your delivery. Two meals per day seven days a week comes out to about $
16 Performance Kitchen
With Performance Kitchen, you can get fresh, frozen meals inspired by the Mediterranean diet. The meals are made with minimally-processed ingredients, under 500 milligrams of sodium per serving, and less than 4 grams of added sugar.
How it works: You can order keto-friendly meals like cream chicken with bacon or chicken cashew satay a la carte, and if you plan on feeding more than just yourself, you can opt for the 'multi' option on each meal, which will provide you with enough food for 2-3 people. Delivery in the Pacific Northwest and California takes one to two business days, but other areas should expect a wait time of two to three weeks.
17 HelloFresh
Though HelloFresh doesn't have keto options specifically, they do have a category for low-carb meals. You can find the carb-balanced meals under the 'carb smart' tag on their website. In your delivery box, you'll get the ingredients and instructions to prepare the meal yourself, so some cooking is required.
How it works: HelloFresh lets you customize your plan according to how many people you're feeding and how many recipes you'd like per week. A plan for two people and three recipes per week comes to about $ per serving.

Tokenomics, Forecast & News Update

Introduction

The KuCoin hack, OKEx debacle, Bitmax shutdown and BTC dominance appreciation slowed down Verasity’s momentum just as we launched one of the biggest esports events in crypto (UWS PUBG tournament).
Nevertheless our technical accomplishments and ability to scale have never been better. All the parts of the Verasity ecosystem are coming together in the best possible way.
This article is meant to update the community as well as provide new information about what we have accomplished and are doing to make this the best project in crypto.

VRA Token Distribution & Circulating Supply Update

Below is a table setting out Verasity’s calculated Circulating Supply, locked and unlocked tokens. We will update this quarterly.
Etherscan links:
Total VRA Supply
Founders & Team Tokens
Total Wallet #1 — Foundation

Founders Token Unlock Schedule

Founders tokens are locked until the price of VRA reaches a target which is approximately in the range of the ICO price. To give the exact target price will harm investors as traders will take advantage of that data point. As long as the price remains below the target price, the Founders & Team tokens will not be released.
Only when the target price is reached can the Founders & Team pool be released annually. In each year (2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023) the Founders & Team qualify to receive upto 25% of their allocation if the minimum price condition has been achieved. If the target price has not been reached then the tokens remain locked. No tokens will become available for release in 2020.
We don’t believe that the Founders & Team tokens are a market overhang due to the onerous restrictions of the unlock schedule.

Funding Update

Current resources held by Verasity fund the project roadmap which has been published for the next 12 months. We forecast (see below) reaching profitability in 2021 which will finance the continuing runway thereafter.
The Foundation Reserve has sold 355,300,000 tokens (12.9% of its original total) to finance exchange listings and other costs. In the future, additional listings and expenses may require sales of VRA from the Foundation Reserve. Verasity had anticipated and disclosed this in the tokenomics update of April. See further information about the Foundation tokens in the VRA Token distribution section of this article.

VeraWallet Staking Program Update

Based on the staking program operating at full capacity throughout the calendar year 2021, and ignoring the timing of deposits and withdrawals, a maximum of 847,500,000 VRA will be required to pay the daily staking rewards. The staking reward rate is 0.1% per day (36.5% per annum) until 31 March 2021 when it becomes 0.07% daily (25.55% pa) until 31 December 2021.
Given that the staking rewards come from the Foundation Reserve or market purchases by Verasity, we believe that staking rewards have not been inflationary to total supply.

New VeraWallet Features Coming Soon

Liquidity Mining
Earn additional VRA by providing liquidity for a selected token pair. Send equal amounts of VRA and a trading pair token (i.e. DAI) to a special VeraWallet address to create a liquidity pool. Once active this will generate VRA rewards for each day of providing liquidity. You can withdraw your tokens from the liquidity pool after a fixed period or can leave your tokens for the whole liquidity mining period.
Instant Buy & Stake
Additional Top Up Methods
We will expand the credit card facilities to other vendors which will be announced soon.

Exchanges Update

Verasity started 2020 with a listing on KuCoin ‘one of the most popular and secure cryptocurrency exchanges’ and soon VRA’s trading volume was up to $250k — $500k organic volume per day, liquidity was deep and VRA’s price was trending upwards. Then, on 25th September 2020, KuCoin announced it had been hacked and it had frozen withdrawals. Following this, in early November Bitmax announced its interface was down for a week preventing any trading.
Without adequate liquidity from our largest exchanges and in combination with the rise of Bitcoin dominance from 58% to 67% of the overall market, VRA came under great pressure and its price fell from the end of September onwards.
Also in September, Verasity launched its Ultimate Warrior Showdown event in collaboration with the exchange OKEx. We were very pleased with the millions of video views achieved and we were looking forward to developing our working relationship with OKEx, however, shortly after the event’s conclusion the founder of OKEx was detained by the Chinese authorities and withdrawals were suspended by the exchange.
These four external events slowed our momentum.
We are glad that OKEx plans to reopen its withdrawals next week but we are now reluctant to deal with any exchanges that have ongoing investigations by government authorities.
Verasity is aware of the importance of having secure and liquid exchanges to trade VRA and it is one of our objectives to increase the quantity and quality of exchanges we are listed on. Over the next few months we plan to add new exchanges in various jurisdictions. We will be working with expert advisers and diving deeper into our due diligence on potential exchanges. We are currently negotiating with several exchanges but make no promises as to timing given that crypto exchanges are so vulnerable to hackers as well as regulatory risks (see OKEx & BitMEX). Verasity cannot predict which exchanges will have issues as we don’t control exchanges.
Do keep in mind that the community requested the following exchanges over the last six months: Bittrex, OKEx, KuCoin, Bitmax & Bitmart. We delivered on all of these exchanges but had to pause OKEx because of the government investigation and withdrawal stoppage.
We are currently close to finalizing a listing and hope to announce soon. Listings are announced by exchanges, so you will know when we are listed.

Buyback and Burn Update

Verasity has burned 2,135,033,305 VRA (17% of original total supply) since its launch. However, in 2020 there have been no burns because the income generated in the year was not sufficient to cover the additional expense of a substantial buyback.
This does not mean that Verasity has abandoned its intention to buy back and burn, it only means that we are waiting for our net revenues and fees to grow (see forecast below).
With regard to the communication of token burns, our legal advisers state that due to certain territories where VRA is available we cannot make commitments to dates, amounts or rates of future burns. Otherwise we risk being considered a security token and being delisted from certain exchanges (and not be able to get onto new ones). Hence we have to repeat that ‘a random amount of net revenues and fees earned by Verasity in fiat are used to buy back VRA from exchanges to burn’. Once a burn has taken place we will inform the community and it will be visible on the blockchain. We anticipate buy backs in 2021 and will inform the community after they take place.
Once we reach profitability which is anticipated in 2021 (see the forecast below), the Verasity Foundation is committed to buy back and burn VRA. Please note that Verasity is a foundation and by law is not allowed to distribute profits (it cannot declare a dividend) so to maximise token holders’ value it will continue to buyback and burn VRA.

Business Model

Our fundamental model has not changed:
Video publishers attract audiences to watch video content and ads. Users are rewarded for it, thereby increasing engagement and monetization.
This model has not changed. What has changed is the type of video publisher we are pursuing. Prior to COVID-19, we pursued traditional publishers. With COVID-19, we saw the opportunity to pursue gaming publishers and more specifically esports publishers. More importantly, we created our own tournament platform: esportsfightclub.com. This allows us to control our own environment, launch our own proprietary video player, own our video content, run ads on our player, and charge subscription fees as well as take tournament fees.
This also allows us to scale at our chosen rate. Initially we tested huge tournaments with the largest brands and broadcasters and now are doing smaller scale events to give us the space to build out more features for the platform before the next big tournament.
Esports Fight Club will require players to use VRA to purchase subscriptions via several payment systems: VeraWallet, PayPal and Credit Cards (although some tournaments are free for promotional purposes). Winners receive VRA for winning tournaments. Soon players will also be rewarded VRA for watching ads. Verasity profits from the purchase of game credits, subscriptions, tournament prize pools and ads. This is an entire ecosystem all within Verasity.
Some of the community asked us why we are doing smaller events now after such large events. Building a platform is not just about huge marketing. Our technical roadmap actually calls for different size events (micro events) in different periods, which allows the platform to add features and functionality that has been included in the development roadmap as well as to grow the platform organically. For more about Esports Fight Club’s future plans see this video with Mike Stubbs.
Initially we started with two world class tournaments which brought in millions of viewers and tested our platform. Now we are running micro tournaments while we build out the platform features to accommodate our vision of a world class tournament platform. This will include our proprietary video player as well as ad stack and finally Proof of View which will make the ad monetization so much more valuable.
It may be difficult to see the forest from the trees, but all the parts are coming together now:

Recent Achievements

In crypto it’s easy to forget what we have accomplished so far. Just in the last few months we have:

Our Reach in Gaming

Tencent
We had the first third party multi-country PUBG Mobile tournament with Tencent approval and in 2021 have an opportunity for in-game rewards once we have put on further large scale tournaments. This will put Esports Fight Club and Verasity in a unique position.
Tencent and Verasity will continue to explore multiple avenues to work together across multiple regional Intellectual Properties around PUBG Mobile and Asian markets.
Athena Gaming & Warmania
Diversifying esports activations through multiple localised companies to promote regional growth like Athena and Warmania.
Blizzard
Obtaining tournament licenses for all major games.
Because we are a small team, we have not had the resources to fully utilize our reach. We will do so in 2021 with large companies and projects to help us scale.
Additional Esports Fight Club activities
Verasity Scale & Adoption
Our PUBG tournament was one of the most successful events with this scale of adoption in crypto. Other platforms pale in comparison with thousands of views not millions. After our beta we went into full scale mode without a hitch — millions of video viewers without any issues. Now we are running smaller events while we expand the platform organically and build out important features and functionalities.
Our tournament had a prize pool that was five times smaller than the PMPL SA 2020 tournament but performed comparatively, and had a prize pool that was half the size of the Binance tournament but our stats were 88 times larger.

Roadmap Completions this Quarter so far

Although we announced this, few in our community took this big accomplishment in:
We added games last quarter:
and will add more in this Quarter:
Added features to Esports Fight Club:
Expanded current company and gaming relationships geographically to North America, EU & South East Asia.

Verasity Metrics

As of October we had a month on month increase in social stats of 26% and 154% over the previous 12 months. See the metrics here.

News!

  1. We have an agreement with Stripe Payment Systemto provide credit card payments in 135 currencies worldwide for Esports Fight Club. 2.8m websites use Stripe as a payment system with half in the USA. Now Esports Fight Club will include 3 payment systems: Stripe, PayPal and VeraWallet. Between Stripe and PayPal they cover over 50k gaming sites.
Stripe will allow us to:
Now that we have an agreement, Stripe integration will be completed in this quarter.
  1. Esports Fight Club has been working on partnerships within the esports ecosystem to promote cross platform rewards.
To this end we have been in discussions with major peripheral manufacturers including E- Blue, Razer and SteelSeries. As soon as agreements are reached, we will jointly announce sponsored product peripherals that will be rewarded in our tournaments.

Revenue Forecast*

Verasity earns revenue through subscriptions to its gaming and tournament platforms, commission on tournament prize pools, video ad revenues and on transaction fees for use of Verasity products.
Revenues in 2020 were lower than anticipated in part because of our need to pivot to gaming publishers due to the COVID pandemic which affected traditional brand advertising and publisher revenues. We have taken this into consideration in the revised forecast.
In Q1 2021 no material revenue is expected to be generated from Esports Fight Club or from ad revenues.
As the gaming platform develops and our proprietary ad stack is implemented revenue grows month by month. We anticipate that non-gaming publisher sites provide further video ad revenues from Q3 2021 onwards. Additional revenues are expected from the implementation of Proof of View in the latter part of 2021. We expect that the majority of revenues will accrue from ads.
3 Year Forecast*
Buyback and Burn Forecast*
As part of Verasity’s intention to buyback and burn tokens it has included in its forecast three annualised purchases. As discussed above we are unable to commit to dates or amounts of future burns, however as part of the forecast we would like to share what it may look like.*
In 2021, the forecast contains a total buyback and burn of 500,000,000 tokens at an estimated average price of $0.0010 (total $500,000).
In 2022, the forecast contains a total buyback and burn of 1,500,000,000 tokens at an estimated average price of $0.0025 (total $3,750,000).
In 2023, the forecast contains a total buyback and burn of 1,500,000,000 tokens at an estimated average price of $0.0050 (total $7,500,000).
Based on the forecast, we will endeavour to buyback 3.5 billion VRA or 34% of the current total supply, and Verasity would have generated a surplus of $1.9m for future growth and buybacks. Please note that the average prices used to calculate the buybacks are not targets or guarantees for the future price of VRA.*

Our Crypto Community Relationship

The crypto space and community is very unique, one that truly requires more attention from our side. Although we build amazing tech with real world applications, we have not succeeded in taking you with us on the Verasity journey. One big problem we have had is that esports and crypto live in two different worlds. Esports is only on Discord and Instagram, whereas crypto lives on Telegram and Twitter. We have added a Social Wall and hoped that more crypto followers of Verasity would check it out more often.
To get more community involvement we will start doing more AMAs, producing video and podcast content on a regular basis to keep the community informed and widen our crypto audience. To update the community on Esports Fight Club we will post a series of videos and post them across our socials. Here is the first one. We will also start providing quarterly business stats starting in 2021 so that investors can follow our progress much like public stock companies.
We are all here to work with the crypto community and to build the amazing future of Verasity together with you.

Expanding our Reach

We are always looking to expand our reach in order to grow the project. If members of our community have direct contacts with companies and projects that they think will be helpful to growing our business please let us know through our admins. What is helpful here are actual direct contacts and not just company names. Consider our current business as we want to focus on gaming, esports and video partners.

2020.11.24 15:52 sagetcommabob How can I gracefully leave two jobs that aren’t working out?

First time poster, on mobile, sorry for any inevitable mistakes/formatting issues. Also, flair only lets me select one category, so if it matters, I am in the USA.
TLDR: I have two jobs I am severely overextending myself for and I don’t know what my next move should be. There’s the job I hate but pays my bills, and the job in the field I want to pursue that I just realized doesn’t value me. Do I stay at the job I hate? Do I pursue certification in the field I think I want to go into? Or do I just drop everything and start fresh somewhere entirely different?
Some background to explain my headspace a bit (I don’t mean this as a sob story, I just think it’s important to establish where I am at mentally right now.) I know this is long-winded, I’m sorry.
Before COVID hit, I (27f) was very happy at my job. The work was tolerable, the pay was good, and I had AMAZING coworkers. I was able to overlook bad management and other frustrations because I was so happy to be working with friends all day. After COVID hit, we were sent to work from home (call center - this was in March) and shortly after, they fired probably around 90% of the people at my site. Mentally, I already knew working from home was not going to be a good situation for me, and I was right - I stopped putting effort into my appearance (my daily dose of self care), I wore pajamas all the time, I never left home, I felt isolated, and I was very anxious about the pandemic. Then they fired everyone, and I not only lost my coworkers, but I had extreme guilt that I had been chosen to stay when they hadn’t. This also suggests to me that the company is folding and at best I probably only have another year at this job before it ceases to exist. My apartment was already too small before I had to find a place to set up a workstation within it, and now it feels like I have no separation between work and home, especially since my husband also works a call center job from home and even when I’m off the clock I can hear him taking calls in the other room and it feels like I never left work. I am still working at this job and working from home.
So I tried to make that work for a while and it was driving me crazy. I knew I needed a change, especially as the effects of losing so much staff at once made the job less and less tolerable until everything I liked about it was taken away. So I applied for a part-time job outside the home doing reception work. I’ve always been experimental with hair and enjoyed doing my friends’ hair, so when I found an opening at a salon, I thought maybe I could pursue a career in cosmetology instead of just going from one crappy job I don’t care about to another. It felt like I was running toward something I wanted rather than just running away from a bad situation. When I submitted my application, I included a short cover letter stating that my ambition was not to be a receptionist forever and I wanted to enroll in cosmetology school and hopefully continue to work there as I was doing that. It seemed like a natural fit, I got the job, hooray.
Except, it wasn’t actually the job I applied for. I had applied at a local salon for reception work, but the owner of that salon also owns the school I was thinking of enrolling in to pursue certification and I was hired there instead. I didn’t think this was a big deal at the time, but after I accepted the position, they told me it would be a conflict to be enrolled at the school and work there at the same time because they have a policy against staff fraternizing with the students for liability reasons. I understand the policy, but if they had told me about it before I accepted the job, I could have made an informed decision about it and honestly probably wouldn’t have accepted the job.
I decided to try to make it work because if I was going to enroll, it wouldn’t hurt to have some extra money and I knew it would be healthy for me to get out of the apartment a couple of times a week. I thought it would be a good opportunity to make a good impression on the organization if I did choose to enroll and perhaps demonstrate my work ethic to the salon side of things for after graduation. I thought I would just keep up two jobs until my 90 days were up at the school, then I would tell them I understood the conflict with their policy and was thinking more seriously about enrollment and put in my two weeks notice.
I am currently working ~70 hours a week between the two jobs. I have one day off most weeks, some weeks I have none. I have virtually no free time and I am absolutely miserable. I know this situation is not sustainable.
Somehow, I’ve made it through about three months of this, and I was just preparing to submit my resignation at the school. However, a coworker beat me to it, and now not only are we short-staffed, they are asking me to pick up MORE hours (I have been turning this down because I actually have to) I told my boss there that I was starting to think about enrolling and that it was difficult for me to balance two jobs right now, and she said she already had an ad out to replace the coworker who quit and she would just hire two, but asked me not to leave yet. I found that to be fair and agreed.
I guess I reached my breaking point yesterday. After working eight hours at my call center job, I had about one hour to eat something and get ready and leave for my other job. My car didn’t start, and as soon as I realized it wasn’t an issue I would be able to resolve myself and still make it there on time, I called and told them I couldn’t make it. I figured that was that and turned my attention to resolving the issue at hand, but within ten minutes I received a phone call offering to pick me up and drop me off if I would agree to still work. I declined, stating that I had to get this resolved at some point and if I didn’t fix it tonight, I would have the same issue for my shift tomorrow night. Then I figured THAT was that. Nope. I got a scolding text from the boss a few minutes after that, telling me “this isn’t the kind of job where you can just call in at the last minute” as if I knew for days and was just withholding the information to deliver it at the time that was least convenient for her.
This probably doesn’t sound like a big deal, but the way my mind has been working lately just made me feel that if three months of absolutely bending over backwards for this job has earned me no grace and no trust to the point that they can’t withstand one night without me and they treat me like I’m screwing them over on purpose the one time I have a legitimate reason I can’t come in and tell them about it as soon as possible, what the hell have I been working toward? I wanted to make a good impression on this organization and three months of coming in early/on time every single day, doing every job duty to the best of my ability, frequently staying late without complaint, and never giving any reason to doubt or mistrust me, have all meant nothing. The goodwill I thought I had established was so tenuous that a legitimate emergency outside of my control was enough to damage it.
I had a panic attack and when I came down from it, my husband got off work and helped fix my car and I asked for his advice. My instinct was to defend myself over this because I know I am not in the wrong, and I thought if I could do that, I could continue holding down the fort for them until they hire my replacement and ultimately leave on a high note. He had the opposite perspective, saying that they may not take it well if I pushed back on this particular situation, but that for my own well-being it would be a good idea for me to set a date to resign even if they don’t have an applicant lined up by then so that they are motivated to find a replacement. I agree with him that I need to set limits, but I don’t know where. I ended up going in instead of taking the whole night off, so in that way I did take his advice and kind of let it slide. I also know he’s right that if I keep letting them get away with treating me like this, they’re going to continue to do it. But if I quit there when they need me, are they going to react this way again?
All this to say, I don’t know where to go from here. I can’t stay at my full-time job, because I have no work-life balance there and the company is about to go under even if I wanted to stay. But I can’t leave, because it pays too well for me to justify leaving a job where I can work from home during a pandemic. I can’t stay at my part-time job, because there’s no future in it and my singular goal (getting in good with management to preserve the option for future better employment opportunities within the organization) is almost certainly unachievable. But I can’t leave because the timing is so bad and if don’t leave, that is to say if I quit on their terms, at least there’s a chance I’ll leave a good impression and it won’t have all been for nothing. The only other thing I can do is take a third option and quit both and do something else, but I don’t know if I can do that either because I can’t set myself up for another situation like this all over again. I just feel so lost. What I want to do is take some time off and work on my mental health but financially that isn’t really an option for me right now and with the pandemic I don’t know if I can reasonably expect to come out with another job on the other side.
Advice on any/all of these situations is appreciated.

2020.11.24 11:24 KarmaBread Hello, my name is Scot no friends

The format will suck because I’m on my phone so please bear with me.
I 20f have now come to the realisation that I have no good/close friends. I have been friends with ‘A’ (20f) since 2017, we met at trade school and have been fairly close, she even stayed at my place for two weeks last year when my family went on holiday (I was working and then got fired because they didn’t like the fact I had eczema). However during COVID, when we should be keeping in contact with our friends and family, she’s flaked. I should also mention I have a boyfriend (19m) (met in March, dating since April). She thinks we spend every waking minute attached at the hip... no, we both have lives to live, we catch up a couple of times a week and have dinner together too. She knows that I am not always with him but she refuses to believe it. We’re also polar opposites, and sometimes opposites attract, maybe they used to but they don’t anymore. - She loves the beach and tanning, I tolerate the beach and burn like candle. - She is obsessed with bikinis and wants to get me in one, I’m a bigger girl and have only recently gotten comfortable in a one piece without a rash vest and board shorts at the pool, bikini is out of the question, for that reason and the burny burny. - She frequently goes on weekend getaways with her family - She likes the finer things in life, for example, she has a 2017 Jeep Cherokee with all the bells and whistles. I have a 2013 Toyota Yaris with Bluetooth, nothing more really. - She doesn’t truly know what she wants to do. A is currently studying to be a paramedic through a dodgy online course and not through uni (where she would get placement and on site training and classes). She’s not passionate about anything in particular. - I on the other hand am studying nursing (just started and loving it). I had two plans going through school. Become a chef or a nurse. Was a chef for a year after I left school and I hated every minute of it. As I said I’ve only just started a new course and I’m loving every second of it, my classes are online but I get to go onsite to go and do labs (learning proper skills n that).
The real turning point for me was last night. She sent me a Snapchat in a shop ‘wasting time before the drive ins’. Huh. Didn’t know you were free, because I’ve told you my week and it’s pretty blah from 3pm onwards. I asked who she was with and what movie (as I was genuinely interested), and she gave me a very vague answer ‘oh just a friend from work, we’re just seeing a movie’ Cheers, didn’t really answer my question but anyway. I then look on Instagram this morning and low and behold, they even went out for dinner, and she too has a Jeep. I feel as though she only wants to talk if I have something to offer, I used to drive us around places for day trips (didn’t get petrol money and lord knows she owes me hundreds. I wouldn’t mind if it’s local but when it’s 65kms there and 65kms back yeah I kinda want $10-$20 for fuel, when a full tank costs me $40-$50). I’m hurt really, I don’t have people I can talk to, wasn’t popular at school, tried and failed having friends. I feel as though I’ve lost my sister.

Expect weekend and holiday case report delays. "Daily case counts reflect newly reported cases and may represent cases that were tested in the preceding days, which could significantly impact the count on days when a relatively large number of laboratory reports arrive in one day." SNHD confirmed they are not counting COVID-19 antibody positives into their COVID-19 positive case counts.
Majority of information is pulled from Southern Nevada Health District's COVID-19 dashboard and historical reports.
Our positives are increasing about under 1000/day, our recovery rate has decreased (85+% range), and our hospitalizations are rising. To report a non-compliant business through the state, call (702) 486-9020 or (775) 688-3700.
Doctors are doing convalescent plasma therapy treatments and are seeking plasma donors to help those in need. One plasma donation can help five patients. Blood donors can get the antibodies testing done for free.
FDA states 144 trials of therapeutics are underway to treat COVID-19. 457 more are in planning stages. Remdesivir has been FDA approved as a COVID-19 treatment (10/22). Despite recent studies showing that Remdesivir do not help in preventing COVID-19 deaths. Dexamethaaone is FDA approved for emergency base use. Eli Lilly's antibody treatment, bamlanivimab, receives emergency FDA approval (11/9).
Nevada has been approved for the 24-hour test procedure. FDA has approved a 30-minute and a 5-minute testing procedures. UNLV provides the main COVID-19 testing services. The first at-home testing kit was FDA approved on 5/15.
If you live within a 1-mile range of the Wal-Mart on Craig Rd, you qualify for a drone-delivered test kit to your front or back door.
Some testing sites require an appointment; some may need to be scheduled by your primary care physician or another authorized provider.
More test sites will open throughout December:
Drive-thru testing at Texas Station reopened on 11/13. 8am to 4pm, Thursday thru Monday. No appointment needed, results in 24 to 48hrs (setup your MyChart app account; 3 business day process).
City Serve coordinates testing sites throughout the valley. Testing is only on Saturdays. Schedule a no-cost test here: https://cityservelv.org/
The antibodies test was approved by the FDA a month ago. UMC, E7 Health and local laboratories are able to conduct antibodies testing. Cost is normally $149+, but your insurance may reimburse you for the test. Check your coverage first. Vitalant/Universal Blood Services will do a free antibody test for any eligible donors.
UMC is able to process 4,000 tests per day. It is encouraged for anyone to be tested. Symptoms are no longer required. Appointment is preferred, walk-up testing is available.

2020.11.23 23:27 AgitatedDirt3879 I want to update (or replace) my PC

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Mostly works, it should handle (occasionally multiple) IDE-s, nearly infinite browser tabs, model/world editors, simulators. (Microsoft AirSim failed miserably, but after inspecting the minimum requirements my wallet started to cry.) I don't play high end games. I'm fine with the medium/low graphic, but I have a 4k (UHD) monitor, and it's really bad to play Borderlands 2 in lowered resolution and windowed mode... It would be nice to be able to connect my 2nd (HD) monitor too. Sometimes I host modded minecraft server, and play with my friends, (its really heavy, sometimes it freezes, so I have to change tty and kill it.)
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
500$
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
0-10 days
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Priority: RAM>CPU>Motherboard>GPU
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
I'm located in Europe, amazon/ebay any other worldwide shipper suggestion is fine, The prices are similar in the local market. (+-2%) Unfortunately the best itempicker site is unreachable outside of my country. Feel free to use any site that fits you. (Closest pcpartpicker's country is Germany)
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
HDD,SSD,Peripherals,(GPU
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
No
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
ps2 port UPS? (details below)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
I'll stick with the penguin.
Extra info or particulars: I have a PC which sometimes fails to satisfy my needs. I want to upgrade (or replace). In case its better to replace I'll grow a bigger budget, and come back later fro a VR ready PC :)
My current PC: - Motherboard: Gigabyte model: GA-970A-DS3 it has 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory - RAM: 2x4Gb kit (=8GB) 1600Mhz, but the bios says otherwise (1333Mhz) Maybe it needs a BIOS update? (I don't have the courage to do it) - CPU: Topology: 6-Core model: AMD FX-6100 bits: 64 type: MCP arch: Bulldozer rev: 2 L2 cache: 2048 KiB - GPU: NVIDIA GP107 [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti] vendor: ASUSTeK (I don't want to replace it list:) - HDD: 1T (data) and 80Gb (unused) - SSD: Samsung model: SSD 860 EVO 500GB (OS, and apps) - OS: Linux Mint 20 Ulyana - Keyboard: Logitec from 1997 with ps2 connector - Mouse, audio: (I don't want to replace it) - Monitors: 4k (UHD) used, HD unused - Power: Descent, we have sometimes micro/millisecond failures in the power, and this is the only PS that survived it. (My brother killed 3 different ones, and it killed my raspberry pi) Do I need UPS? Or it will amplify the problem with the switching time?

2020.11.23 14:41 FlexJobs How to work remotely in the Cayman Islands for up to two years with their new remote work program.

As beneficial as remote work has been in helping companies and workers weather the pandemic, there’s no denying that some of the benefits of remote work—like being able to live the life of a digital nomad—have been sharply curtailed amid the global health crisis.
Thankfully, several countries are opening their borders to remote workers, allowing you to work from a new home—in paradise.
Note: FlexJobs is a subscription service for job seekers that features flexible and remote jobs. With an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, the monthly subscription costs allow us to fully vet and verify all of the jobs on our site—ensuring that customers have a safe and positive job searching experience.

Welcome to the Cayman Islands

If you’re going to work remotely somewhere other than your current location, why not go to a warm-weather destination where you can swim with stingrays on your days off and spend your lunch hours luxuriating on the beach? That’s exactly the kind of work-life balance you can find when you work remotely in the Cayman Islands for up to two years with their new remote work program.
Located 480 miles south of Miami, Florida, in the western Caribbean, the Cayman Islands provide ample opportunities for sun-drenched recreation, along with the chance to experience “Caymankind,” the spirit of the islands.

The Global Citizen Concierge Program

Launched on October 21, the Global Citizen Concierge Program (GCCP) enables digital nomads to live and work from one of three islands (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, or Little Cayman) at a time when it’s very difficult to visit the territories due to tourist travel restrictions. While this program does give you unprecedented access to a beautiful island paradise, it comes with some stringent requirements and guidelines.

Income Requirements

The program is catering to a fairly well-off crowd for this remote work program, with the income requirements prove it. You must make a minimum of $100,000 per year to apply to the program as a single applicant. If you’d like to bring a spouse or partner, you need to make at least $150,000 as a household, and if you’re bringing dependents, the figure climbs to $180,000.

COVID-19 Guidelines

The Cayman Islands have managed to successfully control COVID-19 to the extent that they have no social distancing requirements and masks are only mandated in healthcare facilities, home care facilities, prisons, airports, and taxis,
However, they do have strict quarantine guidelines for all inbound travelers, who must:
What’s more, travelers must either quarantine at a government-sponsored facility, a privately-run facility (to the tune of several thousand dollars!), or at a residence while wearing a monitoring device.

How to Apply

If this sounds exactly like your kind of “home” office environment, you’ll need to provide:
Planning to bring dependents? You’ll also need a marriage or civil partner certificate, along with their birth certificates, proofs of identity, background checks, and health insurance coverage proof.
As soon as you have all your documentation in hand, you’re ready to apply to receive a Global Citizen Certificate! Annual application fees are $1,469 for two people, plus $500 per dependent.

How the Program Works

Once approved, you’ll have 12 months to begin your stay, and the Certificate is valid for two years from arrival in the Cayman Islands. If, however, your employment is terminated, the Global Citizen Certificate will expire on your date of termination. (More detailed GCCP regulations explain other possible reasons for revocation of the Certificate.)
After you’ve begun your stay in Cayman, you can come and go from the islands as you please and travel anywhere, as long as you spend a total of 90 days there each 12-month period. Upon returning, however, you’ll have to abide by any current quarantine regulations.
The GCCP will help you book travel arrangements to the Cayman Islands and will also provide information to help you choose accommodations for your stay.

Things to Consider

Before you get too attached to your Caribbean dreams, check with your employer to see if your remote position is location-specific or if you truly can work from anywhere. Up to 95% of jobs require workers to be based in a certain location for a variety of reasons, so make sure you know before you go.
Because your Certificate expires immediately upon termination of your job, it also makes sense to assess the stability of your position. If your company has been experiencing layoffs or furloughs and the future seems uncertain, it may not be the time to embark on a Cayman remote work adventure.
The GCCP also requires that any dependent children be either enrolled in a local private school on the island or in a homeschooling program.

Remote Work Your Way

If working at home is starting to feel more restrictive than freeing, it may be time to consider taking your job on the road as a digital nomad. Remote work programs that enable you to travel and explore new locales can be just the balm you need to refresh your mind and your career.
Looking for a remote job? FlexJobs can help! We offer remote jobs in more than 50 career categories.

2020.11.23 01:34 DarthEquus Circumcision: The Uniquely American Medical Enigma Edward Wallerstein

The continuing practice of routine neonatal nonreligious circumcision represents an enigma, particularly in the United States. About 80 percent of the world's population do not practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. Among the non-circumcising nations are Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavia, the U.S.S.R., China, and Japan. People employing circumcision do so either for "health" reasons or as a religious ritual practiced by Muslims, Jews, most black Africans, non-white Australians, and others.
The origin of the ritual practice is unknown. There is evidence of its performance in Israel in Neolithic times (with flint knives) at least 6000 years ago.38 Jews accept the Old Testament origin as a covenant between God and Abraham,18 although it is generally agreed that the practice of circumcision in Egypt predated the Abrahamic Covenant by centuries.55 Ritual Circumcision is not germane to this discussion except insofar as the surgical ritual impinges upon accepted medical practice.65
So called "health" circumcision originated in the nineteenth century, when most diseases were of unknown etiology. Within the miasma of myth and ignorance, a theory emerged that masturbation caused many and varied ills. It seemed logical to some physicians to perform genital surgery on both sexes to stop masturbation; the major technique applied to males was circumcision. This was especially true in the English-speaking countries because it accorded with the mid-Victorian attitude toward sex as sinful and debilitating.64
The most prolific enumerator of the health benefits of circumcision was Dr. P. C. Remondino.50 In 1891 this physician claimed that the surgery prevented or cured about a hundred ailments, including alcoholism, epilepsy, asthma, enuresis, hernia, gout, rectal prolapse, rheumatism, kidney disease, and so forth. Such ludicrous claims are still disseminated and possibly believed. The book was reprinted in 1974, without change, and the Circulating Branch Catalogue of the New York Public Library (1983) listed the Remondino book, showing a publication date of 1974. One physician, writing in Medical Aspects of Human Sexuality (1974), called the book "pertinent and carefully thought out."63
Remondino was not the only one expounding such views. In 1911, Dr. Joseph Preuss, in a monumental tome, Biblical-Talmudic Medicine, claimed that Jewish ritual circumcision endowed health benefits; his sole source was Remondino46 Some espoused more extreme views; in 1910 an article in J.A.M.A. described a new circumcision clamp. The authoinventor claimed that with this device, the operation was so simple that men and women could now circumcise themselves.30
In the 75-year period (1875 to 1950) there was virtually no opposition to routine circumcision in the United States. Instead there were many articles in medical journal and textbooks extolling the practice; the issue was ignored in the popular press. Yet in the more than a century of acceptance of routine circumcision in the English-speaking countries, from 1870 to the present, no other country adopted newborn circumcision.
The first serious questioning of the practice did not occur until late 1949 (in England with the publication of Gairdner's "The Fate of the Foreskin."17 which began to affect the practice of circumcision by the British. In 1963, an editorial in J.A.M.A. called the attitude of the medical profession paradoxical and confused, and admitted that the facts about circumcision were still unknown.14 This was followed by several critiques of circumcision such as those by Morgan (1965 and 1967)38 and Preston (1970).45 In 1968 Øster confirmed Gairdner's findings,42 as did Reichelderfer and Fraga,49 who presented a comprehensive study of circumcision. Yet some physicians continued to support circumcision for surprising reasons. For example, Dr. Robert P. Boland, writing in The New England Journal of Medicine in 1969, compared circumcision with tonsillectomy, calling both procedures "ritualistic," and "widely performed on a non-scientific basis." He opposed routine tonsillectomy but concluded vis-a-vis circumcision: "Little serious objection can actually be raised against circumcision since its adverse effects seem miniscule."5
Table 1. Estimated Newborn Nonreligious Circumcision Rates in English-Speaking Countries.
Great Britain New Zeland Australia Canada America

In the 1970's, a change seemed in the offing. In 1971 and 1975, the American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Circumcision declared: "...there are no valid medical indications for circumcision in the neonatal period."2 In 1978, the position of the American Academy of Pediatrics was endorsed by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.64 In 1983 both groups jointly reaffirmed their positions.1 The "firm" firm declarations should have caused a marked drop in the United States circumcision rate. They did not.
To explore the circumcision rate in the United States, it is essential to compare the American experience with the other English-speaking countries. Anticircumcision articles appeared in the medical press in all of these countries. Gairdner17 and Øster42 were published in journals in England; Morgan (1967) was published in Australia.39 In 1971, the Australia Paediatric Association recommended: "Male infants should not as a routine be circumcised."13 In 1975, the Canadian Paediatric Society stated, ". . .there is no medical indication for circumcision in the neonatal period."57
Although there is no precise data on circumcision from any country, approximated rates for the English-speaking countries reveal that in Great Britain, the practice has virtually been abandoned; New Zealand follows closely behind. (In a 1982 visit, a number of physicians were apologetic for the "inordinately high" rate of 10 percent. Several physicians stated categorically that they refused to perform routine circumcisions.) The rates in Canada and Australia appear to be declining at about 10 percentage points per decade. The United States stands alone as the only country in the world in which the majority of newborn males are circumcised, purportedly for health reasons.
Before addressing the phenomenon of circumcision in the United States let us examine the Canadian and Australian data. In Canada (Table 2), there are considerable rate differences among the provinces but the overall rate is clearly declining, and in Quebec the practice has been virtually been discontinued. In Australia (Table 3), unlike Canada, the rates by states are relatively uniform, but clearly declining. In 1978, the Australia government recommended that payments for circumcision be reduced or eliminated.71 (In a visit to Australia in 1982, I was told that a national campaign was planned to reduce unnecessary surgery; circumcision was high on the list.)

Although nationwide data on circumcision for Canada and Australia are admittedly imperfect, precise data for the United States are virtually non-existent. The H.E.W. Hospital Records Study excludes neonates.70 The Cycle III Health Examination Survey, conducted from 1963 to 1965 among youths aged 12 to 17, reflected the practice of circumcision in the early 1950's.70 The total circumcision rate was 765 (whites, 80 percent; blacks, 45 percent); regional differences were also noted.
In 1980 Wallerstein provided a crude compendium of circumcision rates reported in the literature.64 This was updated in 1981 by King and Roebuck.29 Since these compendia, other reports from individual hospitals have been noted in the literature (Table 4).25 Of the five hospitals reporting, the lowest rate was 80.7 percent; the other rates ranged from 90 to 98 percent. These data are static, that is, reported within a fixed period, making it impossible to discern a trend. Several hospitals reported longitudinal changes. One New York City maternity center stated that "in the past" the rate was 90 percent; in 1980 it was 60 percent.35 Other reports are more precise, indicating changes from 1978 to 1980, and 1975 to 1979 (Table 4, last two hospitals).3 The year-to-year changes were negligible; clearly there was no precipitous decline. This stability of rate was confirmed by the Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities, which publishes annual data based on projections from atypically large hospitals.72 They show a 1970 rate of 88 percent and a 1980 rate of 86 percent. The mean rates from 1970 to 1975 and from 1976 to 1980 are identical (86 percent).54

In 1982 Slatkowski and King approached the question of circumcision rates specifically with respect to the pronouncements of the American Academy of Pediatrics on the practice of circumcision in Illinois.54 They obtained data from 18 Chicago-area hospitals; the rates ranged from 27 to 92 percent (mean 78 percent). Five of the hospitals reported rates from 80 to 88 percent; five from 90 to 92 percent; the rates ranged from 74 to 97 percent, with a single exception: one hospital reported a rate of 4.5 percent. Upon further query, that hospital reported a circumcision rate decline beginning after 1974-75.
These United States data reveal no significant national decline in the circumcision rate desperate the pronouncements of the American Academy of Pediatrics or the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. However there are instances of sharp declines in several hospitals. Dr. Joan Hodgman, director of the Newborn Division of the Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center, reported in 1983 that their circumcision rate is zero. Similarly, J.H.T. Chang, pediatric surgeon at the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, the largest in the city, stated in 1983 that circumcision is not performed even if the parents demand it.24
Why have most United States physicians persisted in the practice? One reason is that the medical and popular literature abounds in serious errors of scientific judgment, equivocation, and obfuscation. Space limitations permit a brief examination of four issues: pain, venereal disease, cancer, and hygiene.
PAIN
Pain of circumcision is not a debatable question; it is a fact.21 However, a perusal of writings in the popular press (1982 and 1983) reveals confusion. Proctor and Gamble, one of the nations largest advertisers, promotes Pampers to parents by offering the Expectant Parents Information Kit (1982), which contains the following statement: "You may be surprised to learn that circumcision will not be painful to your baby because, at this early stage of development, the penis does not yet have functioning nerve endings."15
A contrary view was found in American Baby (May 1983), in which parents were told that "Newborns who undergo circumcision experience a great deal of stress and pain . . ." Parents were advised that it was now possible to employ local anesthetics to alleviate such pain.36
Mother's Manual (1982) argues against local anesthesia because ". . . it swells the area to the extent of making an unsatisfactory circumcision too likely."7 Genesis, published by the American Society for Psychoprophylaxis in Obstetrics, carried an article in 1982 in which two writers who attended a Jewish ritual circumcision described the surgery as bloodless, painless and stressless. They suggested that non-Jewish parents explore the possibility of employing ritual circumcisors.11
Parents who read such an array of literature are bound to be bewildered.
VENEREAL DISEASE
Prior to the turn of the century, little was known about venereal disease, either causes or cures. Understandably, the false claim could be made with impunity that circumcision prevented sexually transmitted diseases.64 These claims persisted beyond the middle of the twentieth century: Urologist A. Ravich titled his 1973 book Preventing V.D. and Cancer by Circumcision.18
Within the past decade there has been virtually no statement that circumcision prevents syphilis or gonorrhea; the present day "whipping boy" is genital herpes. Even a cursory exploration of a link between circumcision and herpes reveals that such claims are without foundation; the presence or absence of the foreskin neither aids nor deters the transmission of herpes. A definitive statement regarding this claim was made in 1979 by Y.M. Felman, director of the New York City Bureau of Venereal Disease Control: ". . . I don't believe that circumcision is of any value in preventing genital herpes, as this disease is quite common in circumcised males and their female sex partners."16
Yet in 1981, Warner and Strashin wrote: "Herpes genitalis appears to be the only sexually transmitted disease associated with circumcision status."67 Strashin defended his statement the following year.68 If circumcision prevents herpes or deters its transmission, how can we explain the phenomenal rise in the incidence of this disease to epidemic proportions, particularly among the most sexually active males, ages 15 to 25, of whom perhaps 75 percent are circumcised? Nevertheless, the 1975 American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force reported: "Adequate studies to determine the relationship between circumcision and the incidence of venereal disease have not been performed." This statement is obvious outdated.
PENILE CANCER
Few diseases strike greater fear than cancer, and no site is more potentially alarming to males than the penis. It is not surprising, therefore that when newborn circumcision is presented as an absolute prophylaxis against penile carcinoma, it is a potent argument for circumcision. Wolbarst wrote in 1932: ". . . cancer of the penis does not occur in Jews circumcised in infancy. There is no case on record."73 Subsequent research indicate that there are such cases on record.4
The understatement of the incidence of penile cancer in Jews should be contrasted with the overstatement in regard to the uncircumcised people of India and China. In 1973, deKernion and colleagues wrote: ". . . the disease accounts for 12 percent of all malignancies among the Hindus of India."12 In 1977 Kaplan claimed, "In China, penile carcinoma accounts for 18 percent of all carcinomata."28 In a visit to the Peoples Republic of China (1976) and India (1982) the incidence of penile cancer was discussed with health officials. They stated that no nationwide health data was available; more specifically, no National Cancer Registries were maintained (much as they would like to do so). They remarked that no reputable scientist in their country would provide such data. Precise data on penile cancer are available from countries in which a National Cancer Registry is maintained. The United States does not maintain such a Registry, and so its data are imprecise. The data from Japan, Norway, and Sweden are compared with the United States' estimates (Table 5). The largest difference in incidence is between the United States and Sweden, three cases per million males; for death rates, the difference between the United States and Japan is one case per million males, small differences indeed. It is worthy of note that in countries in which a National Cancer Registry is maintained and precise incidence or death rates is known, routine circumcisions continues not to be practiced. There is no acceptance of the claimed epidemiologic relationship between circumcision and penile cancer.

It could be argued that in Japan, Norway, Sweden, high standards of hygiene are maintained. The variable in penile cancer prophylaxis may be hygiene, not retention of foreskin. This is essentially the position taken by the 1975 American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force, which denied a relationship between circumcision and prostatic cancer and stated that "non-circumcision is not of primary etiological significance" in cervical cancer.2 In regard to penile cancer, they wrote: "There is evidence that carcinoma of the penis can be prevented by neonatal circumcision. There also is evidence that optimal hygiene confers as much or nearly as much protection" (emphasis added)2 In 1981, 6 years later, Grossman and Posner took a more forthright position. Writing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, they stated: "No one today seriously promotes circumcision as a prophylactic against cancer in any form. No significant correlation between cancer and circumcision has ever been proved."22
The claim that circumcision is related to penile cancer is based upon the "fact" that smegma is a carcinogen. Smegma in infancy consists solely of desquamated epithelial cells, and in adulthood additionally of the secretions of the Tyson's glands. Many attempts have been made to prove a simple cause and effect between smegma and cancer; all failed but one. In 1947 Plaut and Kohn-Speyer "demonstrated" that smegma was a carcinogen. Of the animals examined, 27 percent of those treated with smegma developed cancer whereas 15 percent of the animals treated with cerumen developed cancer.44 Is it now possible to claim that cerumen is also a carcinogen with only one half of the carcinogeneity of smegma? This study is deficient in conceptualization, methodology, execution, gathering of data, and analysis.44 Understandably, the study has largely been ignored; however, as recently as 1981 it was accepted in one medical journal article without question.23
Penile cancer scare techniques are still with us. In 1980, Kochen and McCurdy stated that ". . . uncircumcised men are uniquely at risk . . ." They "demonstrated" that the predicted lifetime risk among uncircumcised men was one in 600.31 They did not address why 599 out of 600 at risk" males will not contract penile cancer in their lifetime. More importantly, Kochen and McCurdy based their calculations on the 1968 Stern and Lachenbruch study of one cancer detection center in Los Angeles.59 Their 1968 data are obviously skewed in age, ethnicity, religion, social class, and so forth, and are admittedly non-random. Such inadequate local data should not be extrapolated to a national statistic.
The threat of penile cancer hangs over the discussion of circumcision like some mystical demon. It deserves to be exorcised, not circumcised.
PENILE HYGIENE
In several studies, mothers were asked why they agreed to their son's circumcision. The answer given most frequently was "hygiene."53 (In a 1981 United Nations study of female genital surgery in Africa, one reason given for such surgery was "hygiene."19 ) Why is male genital hygiene viewed with such alarm in the United States that prophylactic surgical intervention is necessary?
For over a century, and to this day, mothers have been warned that proper penile hygiene involves full retraction of the foreskin to clean the glans of smegma, and this procedure should start almost at day one. Such a task is virtually impossible, because in almost all infants the foreskin is attached firmly to the glans. Separation occurs normally within a few months or several years. Separation may be forced but this literally involves tearing the tissues apart, which is usually painful and may result in bleeding. No sane mother enjoys causing distress to her child. No wonder there is fear and reluctance about retraction of the foreskin. This has created a foreskin phobia. Forced retraction of the foreskin may lead to complications, and may well be the reason for so many postinfancy circumcisions (only in the United States).
The problem with this hygienic technique is that it is totally in error. Care of the foreskin is not exceedingly difficult; it is exceedingly simple: leave it alone. The foreskin in infancy should not be retracted. In 1977 Kaplan wrote, " . . . freeing 'adhesions is tantamount to cruel and unusual punishment and is unfounded physiologically or medically."28 Development of the foreskin and the inadvisability of forced retraction was noted by Gairdner (1949),17 Øster (1968),42 Reichelderfer and Fraga (1968),49 and others.
Many, if not most, American physicians are ignorant of proper care of the foreskin. This was demonstrated by Osborn and colleagues in 1981, who queried Utah pediatricians and found that 67 percent estimated that the foreskin should retract easily by one year.40 This is contrary to all findings of studies of the foreskin. Only 3 percent said the newborn foreskin should never be retracted. In interviewing a small sample of mothers of uncircumcised boys, Osborn and colleagues also found that retraction of the foreskin caused such anxiety that 40 percent of these mothers stated that they would have their next male infant circumcised.
The problem is not limited to Utah. In a study of physicians in the Chicago area, Patel and colleagues reported in 1982 that "only 49 percent of the physicians [in the total sample] were aware of the AAP's [American Academy of Pediatrics position."43 Among the pediatricians and obstetricians in the sample, 62 percent were aware of this position. The major reason given for recommending circumcision was "hygiene" (90 percent). In a 1982 study by Stein and colleagues conducted in San Diego, they noted, "Only 36 percent of the responding physicians were aware that the newborn's foreskin is characteristically not found retractable."58 When asked "if a nonretractable foreskin is an indication for circumcision," 47 percent of all respondents answered incorrectly. Such incorrect responses were mare likely to be given by those in family practice (50 percent), obstetrics (55 percent), and general practice (67 percent) than by those in pediatrics (13 percent). At the Spring 1983 meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics in Philadelphia, an exhibit on circumcision was conducted. The most frequently asked question related to proper care of the foreskin.
If physicians are ill-informed about care of the foreskin, how can parents be well informed? There are thousands of books, pamphlets, and articles available to parents relating to child care. Almost none devotes attention to proper care of the foreskin. Discharging a circumcised child without informing the parents of proper wound care constituted negligence. Discharging an uncircumcised child without informing the parents of proper care of the foreskin is equally negligent. Osborn and colleagues reported that the only written information they could find on the subject was this statement in a 1978 book: " . . .retract the foreskin gently and return the foreskin to its normal position to prevent constriction and swelling."8 To begin to correct this lack of information, in 1982 Wallerstein wrote a pamphlet entitled "When Your Baby Boy is Not Circumcised."66 Boyce also addressed the subject in an article entitled "Care of the Foreskin (1983).6 The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued a pamphlet entitled "Care of the Uncircumised Penis" (1984).
The issue of hygiene is obfuscated by the American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force Report in two ways. As noted earlier, the Report stated that to prevent penile cancer, "optimum hygiene was necessary. The reader, lay public or physician may ask: What constitutes "optimum hygiene? Can parents guarantee such optimum care? If not, isn't it better to play it safe and circumcise? The Report also cautions that retention of the foreskin requires "lifelong" hygiene. This statement is not incorrect; it is incomplete. All body parts require lifelong hygiene, body bathing, hair shampooing, oral hygiene, labial hygiene, and so forth. The discontinuance of any aspect of hygiene may well have deleterious effects. Why single out the foreskin?
The crux of the circumcision/hygiene rationale had its origin in the fear of the "effects" of masturbation; this may persist in attenuated form. Today, however, it is basically a lack of knowledge: the foreskin and glans in infancy are essentially fused, and should not be retracted forcibly, and smegma is not a carcinogen.
Another claimed hygienic benefit is that thousands of United States servicemen, particularly in the South Pacific required circumcision. Would it not be better to circumcise in infancy and thereby avoid the more troublesome operation in adulthood? However, Japanese soldiers were fighting in the identical environment, and the Japanese did not practice newborn circumcision. When Japanese health officials were visited by Wallerstein (1982), they stated that to the best of their knowledge, Japanese military surgeons did not find it necessary to circumcise after World War II. More to the point, in the event of thermonuclear war, the role of the foreskin will pale to insignificance.
Thus, much of the current circumcision misinformation, both lay and professional, is false and misleading. In 1971 and 1975, the American Academy of Pediatrics appeared to take definitive positions; actually they did not. The American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on the Fetus and Newborn noted in 1971 that "there are no valid medical indications for circumcision in the neonatal period."2 in 1975, the American Academy of Pediatrics Ad Hoc Task Force on Circumcision reported that there was no basis for changing this statement and concluded, "There is no absolute medical indication for routine circumcision of the newborn."2
However, as previously noted, the use of the words "optimum" and "lifelong" with regard to to penile hygiene and the stated uncertainty of a possible link between circumcision and venereal disease represented equivocation. An additional equivocation is found in the 1975 Report: "A diagnosis of phimosis cannot be made with assurance in the newborn period because the cleavage plane between the glans and the deep preputial layer of the penis is not developed at birth. There is a real need for research which will improve diagnostic accuracy in this area."2
In 1983, this statement was challenged by Thompson, who chaired the ad hoc Committee. He wrote: "One major reason used to justify neonatal circumcision - correction or prevention of phimosis has been shown to be untenable by serial studies from birth to adulthood."62 Furthermore, overwhelming epidemiologic evidence from countries that never adopted circumcision or abandoned the practice obviates the need for further study.
Thompson also provided the setting for the equivocation and the absence of a more definitive position: "The ad hoc commmittee was sharply divided in its opinions, and the resulting statement was a compromise that stated that there was no absolute medical indication for routine circumcision of the newborn.' The words absolute and routine were meant to convey a different impression from the conclusion of the AAP Committee on the Fetus and Newborn, but this has no always been the interpretation of readers."62
If the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee was sharply divided and the report subject to misinterpretation, how can physicians and parents take an unequivocal position on circumcision? They cannot. And if the position of the American Academy of Pediatrics is equivocal, the position of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is even more so. When the American Academy of Pediatrics committees reported, the statements were published.56 The endorsements of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists were not published in their journal.64 Moreover, in 1978 Grimes raised an unanswered question: " . . . the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Inc., warns that 'physicians who assume responsibility for the health of male patients for operative or other care will not be regarded as specialists in obstetrics-gynecology . . .'"20 It is well known that obstetricians perform a large percentage of circumcisions.
The acceptance of circumcision was noted by Herrera is 1983, who reported on a nationwide survey of 400 pediatricians and obstetricians; 50 percent believed circumcision indicated in the newborn, 33 percent opposed, and 17 percent were undecided.26 As to advice to parents, there was acquiescence; 15 percent encouraged it, 19 percent discouraged it, and 66 percent remained neutral. "This is one reason why nearly every male neonate is circumcised," Herrera wrote.26
Ambivalence on the part of physicians about circumcision was illustrated in one study by a Canadian hospital in 1983 where there were two patients with a serious complication of circumcision, denuding of the penile shaft that required plastic surgery. A formal proposal to suspend neonatal circumcisions was made but rejected because of anticipated adverse community reaction. However, the circumcision rate in that hospital dropped from about 40 to 20 percent as a result of the mishaps.61
Judging from the record, American medical professionals are not truly opposed to circumcision; they perform about 1.25 million annually. Some continue to insist that there are health benefits. Some physicians place the responsibility on the parents. In 1983 Maisels and colleagues wrote, "If circumcision practices are ever to be changed, such changes will likely result from organized advocacy of lay groups . . . rather than from the efforts of the medical profession."34 However when physicians demonstrated that routine tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy were unwise, the rate dropped. No amount of parental pressure would cause an ethical physician to perform such an operation if it were unnecessary.
Some charge venality, possibly true for some physicians, but not for all, and impossible to document. Some of the highest circumcision rates are to be found in military hospitals, where the doctors are salaried. Contrast this with the abandonment of routine tonsillectomy; some physicians had reduced revenues, but no one clamored for the reinstatement of the procedure to refill the coffers. Venality may not be dismissed entirely; in private practice, circumcision results in a fee, and there is loss of time convincing parents not to have their sons circumcised.
Then there is the Jewish question. Some non-Jewish physicians may be hesitant to question routine "health" circumcision in the mistaken belief that this stance may offend Jews. However, according to Jewish theologians, the Jewish ritual has nothing to do with health.64 Obversely, occasional private comments suggest that Jews are responsible for nonreligious circumcision. This is a canard.
The "enigma" lies in the United States medical profession's apparent inability to come to grips with the simple fact that there are no demonstrable health benefits of circumcision, and there are risks. (Space limitations preclude delineation.) It should also be noted that the foreskin is useful erogenous, and protective tissue. Smegma, both clitoral and penile, is beneficial, not detrimental. Meatitis is not uncommon in circumcised males; rare in the uncircumcised. Moreover, the penis is the only organ subjected to routine prophylactic surgery.
One explanation for holding to outmoded views was provided by a medical professor who told his students, "It takes less than five minutes to print an article in a medical journal and 50 years to erase it." In 1979 Colletti approximated this estimate. He noted that efforts to reverse current circumcision practice "will need at least a generation of widespread education, coaxing, and encouragement to succeed."10 Warner and Strashin are even more pessimistic, based upon an erroneous premise: "As for the likelihood of a successful hygiene education program we can only point to our own profession's impotence in combating smoking and obesity."68 This approach overlooks the fact that hundreds of millions of dollars are expended annually to promote smoking and food intake. No such effort on behalf of circumcision exists.
As scientific evidence mounted to dispute each of Remondino's exaggerated claims, physicians clutched at straws to retain at least one "health" benefit. Now that all such claims have been refuted, circumcision today has become cultural surgery, not very different from ear- and nose-piercing and tattooing. The extreme to which such cultural surgery is carried may be found in the 1983 warning given by the British Social Service Secretary to Harley Street surgeons who charged up to $1500 for a clitoridectomy performed on young girls from Africa, where such surgery is traditional.69 More serious examples were found in France in 1982.52
The medical profession was successful in eliminating routine tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. This is precisely what is needed for routine circumcision. It is necessary to overcome ignorance and the emotional superstructure surrounding the penis, not very different from ancient (and present phallic worship. It is necessary to accept scientific facts; it is necessary to discard myths about circumcision: the foreskin causes premature ejaculation, it keeps the penis from growing, some disaster will befall the uncircumcised child, the uncovered glans is more esthetically pleasing (that is the foreskin is ugly). The special myth that the boy's penis must be identical to his father's ignores the historic truth that no objection was raised, and no problem arose when circumcising millions of boys whose fathers were uncircumcised.
To resolve the problem, the positions of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists should become definitive statements that circumcision is unnecessary surgery, not to be undertaken except in rare medical circumstances. Endorsements of this position should be obtained from all relevant medical groups. This information should be disseminated to the entire medical profession, to all hospitals, nurses and nursing associations, childbirth educators, and most certainly to parents via the popular press. Meetings professional and lay persons should be called on local, state and national levels to discuss circumcision. With such an approach, routine newborn nonreligious circumcision will soon pass from the scene to join blood-letting and cupping in medical history.
As Prucha observed in 1980, "The history of these few millimeters of skin is utterly fascinating."47

2020.11.20 15:16 eqbirvin A Critical Look at Android Email Apps & Clients [Poll][Discussion][Reviews]

Hello friends. I have had a dilemma for a year or so now regarding email clients on Android. They all seem to have issues and sacrifices. So I decided to test out the mainstream ones that I would trust with my email stuff.
Let me start off by acknowledging a couple things:

Alright, lets get to the email clients I have used and tested.
Below is a breakdown with Pros, Cons, Notes of each client, Screenshots of the Clients (Home page/Inbox, settings, and maybe and extra page or two), and a link to where to get the email client.
Testing Methodology(?)

Gmail
I have no screenshots, everyone has this app basically. Find it on the play store or already on your phone.
Pros:
Cons
Notes:
Gmail app works rather well. However, it is not exactly productivity focused or "ground breaking" like some other apps (Inbox, Spark, Outlook's Focused Inbox Default) A couple glaring issues I have with it were covered in cons but it does not let you change notification actions. I do not archive emails, I mark them as read or I delete them. Along with this, I cannot add an email account that has any Google integration without it adding that google or gsuite account to my device. For example, I cannot just add my school and work email without them being added to my Android device and thus removing access to some features on the device like assistant 2.0.

Blackberry Inbox (used to be Hub)

Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
This is a great all around Hub for your notifications from both email and social media/group messaging apps. It has weird screen formatting issues and for those with cutouts and notches, it can look weird. It has serious issues with folder syncing becuase I have 10-20 custom folders in my personal gmail and I have to manually tell it to sync every single folder and it is not a single click but rather a couple click process. During testing, I have found that you can indeed sync all folders with just a click or two.

Sony Email
Screenshots Link to ApkMirror
Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
My internship gsuite email will not sync smtp, same with a test gsuite account I created however, other gsuite emails seam to work. I have gone through and tried the 2fa, app password, enabling less secure apps, changed admin policies on the admin side. I cannot get smtp to work on these accounts with this client.
I got this to work finally, I had to make it think it was a gmail based account first then finally sign in by changing information.
Outlook
Screenshots Play Store Link
Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
Outlook gets the job done. The UI is meh, I dont like some of their choices for features.

Samsung Email
No screenshots as of right now Play Store Link
Pros:
Cons
Notes: I am not a fan of the design of this app but it is not bad by any means. It is Samsung device exclusive. I do not like the auto default to calendar syncing.

LG Email
No screenshots ApkMirror Link
Pros: Pending
Cons: Pending
Notes: Peniding

AOSP/LineageOS Email Client
Screenshots ApkMirror Link
Pros
Cons:
Notes:
This client is the simplest out of all of them. Not many customization options, straight forward setup. Unless you use a tweaked version, it doesn't natively support theme changing with device theme change.

Nine
Screenshots Play Store Link
Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
I personally don't think we should have to pay for such a simple app. If the service was decoupled from usage of the app, I would be okay with it. But a lot of features are locked behind a paywall. The material design is starting feel out of date considering you are paying for this.

K-9 Email
Screenshots Play Store Link F-Droid link with Updated version
Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
I love the fact this is open source! But the primary app is very out of date. I really do not like the look of it and it plays weirdly with notches and hole punches.**Updated Notes:**A couple people pointed out that there is a beta version out that has a material design, I haven't tried it but will and will report back with screengrabs!

Fair Email
Screenshots Play Store Link
Pros:
Cons:

Aqua
Screenshots Play Store Link
Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
The constant annoying for the paid version which is already at a high price is a complete deal breaker for me, even though this is a two week trial. The fact that it pins it to your signature is absurd when you are supposed to let me try it for two weeks and see if I like it.

Spike
Screenshots Play Store Link
Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
I am impartial to this UI, but I wish it would have its own design following material instead of a Facebook and IOS mix. It doesn't look that good for me and is too busy. It does have a lot of features though.

Spark
Screenshots Play Store Link
Pros:
Cons:
Notes:
I really like Spark, I have hesitation of its security though. It looks really good and is pretty simple.

Poll

This is a Google Forms poll just to get an idea of what you guys use, what you like about it, and what you wish would be improved about your chosen client. If you have not input for likes/dislikes, just write "n/a" I left options for people who use two email clients (if you use more, just write about your preferred ones I suppose) but they are not marked as required.
I am not doing anything with this form other than just showing you guys what others voted and using the data to update the pros and cons lists of the email clients. It will be anonymous.
